Police Study Says Bikies Little Risk to Society
A police report on outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMCG) has concluded that ‘bikies’ are not as big a threat to society as some would have you believe. In fact, members of motorcycle gangs account for less than half a percent of all offences committed. The report has stated that the gangs’ culture is not a threat to mainstream society and is not involved in broad scale crime. However, the report has gone on to say that approximately half of all OMCG members have been charged with a serious criminal offence. Out of these figures, OMCG members appear most frequently in relation to violent and drug related crimes. The report has shown that there is no reason for society to be over concerned with OMCG. There have been some minor confrontations over New South Wales bikie laws in the Kings Cross area with police and security guards due to implement the ban on wearing club colours or associating with a club.
