Tips for Protecting Against Break-Ins

There are a number of simple and inexpensive steps that can be taken to secure a home and reduce the risk of you and your family becoming the victims of a household break in. Two key steps police advise homeowners to take are to fit quality deadlocks on all doors and key-operated locks on all windows. Residents are also advised to trim trees and shrubs from around doors and windows so as not to provide concealment for intruders and to install quality security lights to provide more effective illumination at night. Police also suggest residents consider having a monitored intruder alarm system installed. Displaying your street number at the front of the house to assist emergency services to locate your home is also highly recommended. Perimeter fences should be in good order and gates should be kept closed and locked to restrict unauthorised access to your property.
