Providing security to large structures like a warehouse can prove quite a challenge, as there are many ways that an unauthorised person may try to gain entry. While most warehouses will have a pretty decent security system in place, there are always ways that clever criminals can take advantage of even the slightest openings, so make sure your warehouse security has all aspects covered. Perimeter fencing
The fencing around the perimeter of your property may fail to act as much of a first line of defence if it has holes all the way through it, so make sure you repair any issues with your fence as soon as you become aware of them. Weak perimeter fencing will allow unauthorised people, potential vandals and intruders to get far closer to your warehouse than they should be allowed to get.
Doors and windows
As with home security, doors and windows are often the most vulnerable places, so make sure yours are able to stand up to the challenge of an uninvited guest. Having security screens installed on all ground floor doors and windows is a smart idea, and can take away the most obvious target for most amateur criminals.
The roof
If there is a way to get onto the roof of your factory, make sure there is no way for anyone to get inside the factory from up there. It can be surprisingly easy to pry off pieces of roofing material, and if you don’t think carefully about how your warehouse is set up, you may be inadvertently providing an easy way in for any intruder willing to try.
Inside job
Don’t assume that no one on your staff would steal from you, and make sure that security inside the factory is just as tight as that controlling the entry, as many businesses are well protected from outside theft but not against an inside job. Having security devices like CCTV located throughout the warehouse will mean that anyone inside your factory, whether authorised or not, will be kept under the watchful eye of your trusty CCTV, making it near impossible to get away with stealing product.
The back door
Most warehouse workers utilise the back door to be able to duck out for cigarette breaks, however this can leave your business vulnerable to being accessed from the rear, meaning someone could enter your warehouse undetected. Rather than upset your workers by banning smoking, look at improving the security of the back area, or provide an alternate place for your staff to smoke.
A warehouse can contain millions of dollars worth of assets, so make sure your business isn’t leaking money due to weak spots in your security. Even common vandalism can prove extremely costly and frustrating to deal with, so make sure your warehouse security plan is airtight so you can concentrate on doing business rather than chasing kids away from your premises.
